  1. Results of the Ratification Votes

The 2008-2011 Collective agreement between the Faculty Association and the Board of Governors has been ratified by both parties. In an in camera session held at the end of its regularly-scheduled meeting on October 3, the Board ratified the agreement unanimously.

LUFA members also ratified the agreement today, October 8, after voting both in Sudbury and Barrie. In favour, 202, against, 44, abstentions, 2 for a total of 248 ballots cast, or roughly 83% in favour. Ballots were counted by LUFA Vice-President Emily Donato and the results were certified by Lee Ann Fielding, the Executive Officer, and Ashley Thomson, Director of Communications.

What next?

The actual agreement is now being edited by the parties, and then it will be translated. When translation is complete, the final document will be prepared, indexed, and then printed. In the meantime, members may consult the LUFA website which carries a synopsis of the agreement. A copy of the full agreement in English is also available in the LUFA Office for consultation.

Two other points.

First, the Payroll Office is working really hard to process retroactive salary owing for your October cheques.

Second, the union and the employer have both agreed that any application for merit from either assistant or associate professors/librarians submitted by September 30 of this year will be considered, with one exception.

If that application also accompanies an application for promotion, the candidate must decide which one to proceed with. The reason is that effective July 1 2009, any person receiving a promotion will also receive a double increment, and by the new agreement, no one may receive more than one double increment in any one year.

Accordingly LUFA advises Assistant or Associate professors/librarians who have applied for both merit and promotion this year to withdraw their promotion application immediately and apply again in September 2009. If they apply only for the merit increment this year, and are successful, they will receive a double increment in July 2009. If they then apply for the promotion in September of that year and are successful again, by July 2010, then they will have received double increments two years running.
