  1. Ratification Meeting: Tuesday (Ratification Meeting: Tuesday)
  2. The Ratification Process

The Ratification Process: One of our members has asked: It is my understanding that according to the LUFA constitution that the membership is to be given 5 days notice before we have a meeting on the new collective agreement. Additionally, as part of that 5 days a draft of the document is suppose to be circulated to the membership prior to the meeting (i.e., 5 days prior). As we have heard nothing about this as yet, when is the executive going to circulate the draft copy to the membership and give notice of a meeting date for a vote on the new collective agreement?

Answer: David Leadbeater, the Chief Negotiator, is preparing a synopsis which he expects to have completed shortly; LUFA will then forward this synopsis to Françoise Arbuckle for translation. Early next week, the LUFA Board will meet for the purposes of discussing the agreement. There will be a motion on the table to the effect that the Board recommends ratification of the tentative agreement to the membership. Assuming that passes, the motion and the synopsis in both languages will be distributed to all members along with the call to the meeting. LUFA is hoping that the call can be issued by next Thursday with the meeting to take place Thursday October 9 at 4:00 in Fraser or earlier, if we are lucky.

Assuming the membership ratifies the agreement at that meeting, then the Board of Governors will be asked to do the same thing.
